Armando, Age 2

My son, Armando, struggled to grow and gain weight since birth. He would vomit daily and choke on foods once they were introduced. His first endoscopy was at one year old and confirmed an EoE diagnosis through biopsies. He relies on Elecare Jr. Vanilla for his primary form of nutrition. It has been a lifesaver as he is making great strides in growth. My husband has had to take on extra jobs to cover the cost of formula each month. We have four children all with food allergies and two with EoE , therefore, monthly food costs are already high and adding the full cost of formula on top has become a burden. We have appealed multiple times to Florida Blue to have coverage, including a phone conference with doctor and Florida Blue to only be denied each time due to EoE not a covered diagnosis and his age. They will only cover if the formula is for a feeding tube.

The Medical Nutrition Equity Act will provide key support for those Americans who rely on medical foods to survive and thrive.
