Due to the fact that Avery supplements diet with Elecare and does not use as sole source of nutrition our insurance provider calls a “supplement.” Thus, according to their guidelines it isn’t a medical necessity and denies to cover any portion it. Avery’s medical team however deems the formula integral in giving him total nutrition due his very restricted diet. Avery has 3 serious conditions: IGE food allergies, EoE and FPIES. Avery consistently struggles to maintain weight and is also diagnosed having short stature.
