My son was hospitalized at 7 weeks old due to a reaction. At the time it was determined the common cold sent him into near shock. He was also diagnosed with a cows milk protein and soy protein allergy, then food protein induced allergic Proctocolitis which then switched to FPIES after a reaction to rice. We are still not sure if we have found all of his triggers and are hoping he remains chronic with his reactions and is not acute like why sent him to the hospital. My son is now gaining weight and thriving as a happy baby. He was not like this when we didn’t have the safe formula for him as he reacted to my breastmilk even with me on a restricted diet. Our insurance now pays 90% after we hit the individual deductible. However, I would not have been able to get the coverage without our GI fighting for use without the Elecare formula, my son would be hospitalized constantly due to his FPIES.

The Medical Nutrition Equity Act will provide key support for those Americans who rely on medical foods to survive and thrive.
