Benjamin, Age 1

Because of the cost of desperately required essential nutrition (allergen free toddler formula) I have chosen to continue breastfeeding my son. This has been a sacrifice of not only time (as a full time working mother) but also limiting my diet so my milk is safe for my son. We have seen him have drastic weight loss and slowed growth velocity as my milk is no longer sufficient to his caloric needs. His GI specialist recommends to add more formula in his diet, but we cannot afford the financial burden. Having an option that I don’t have to stress over financially and know is safe for my son would be a game changer. We pray for the day he will outgrow his allergies but in the meantime sacrifice to keep him safe and healthy. Our insurance denied coverage for allergen free toddler formula, even after appeal. This is despite his documented severe allergies to dairy and soy. Given his limited diet, he has unmet nutritional requirements.

The Medical Nutrition Equity Act will provide key support for those Americans who rely on medical foods to survive and thrive.
