Luke, Age 4

My son is only 4. He has a whole life of this expensive cost of life, that he had no choice to live, to hover over him forever. He has such a low daily tolerance ( 260 mg of phe a day ) that life without his medical foods cant happen. He can’t eat store bought pasta or bread. He can’t have normal cheese or yogurt. The cost of one pack of cheese from the store is $5 and a single yogurt is $2.50. So add that cost on top of having to pay $30 for pasta or $19 for bread, and who can survive paying for foods at that price and a house and bills? Please pass this law. For all the people that are living paycheck to paycheck just to feed their child. Please pass this law for the adults who had to go off diet to keep a roof over their heads. Please pass this law so that when I die, I know my son can have everything he needs. Our insurance is a federal plan, and all though we live in California, where it is state law for insurance to cover medical foods and formula, our insurance does not have to because they are a federal plan.

The Medical Nutrition Equity Act will provide key support for those Americans who rely on medical foods to survive and thrive.
