I was born with Hirschsprung’s Disease. I have had over 50 surgeries including 7 colostomies/ileostomies. I currently have an Ileostomy and a gastrostomy for venting. In addition, I have a Hickman for TPN feeding. I have constant psuedo and mechanical obstructions. In addition, my body does not break down foods properly or absorb the nutrients. TPN has been what has been keeping me alive. We are grateful at this time that our insurance has been covering the cost. However, we are concerned about when I will be on Medicare only after my husband retires. The price of TPN is extraordinary and we would not be able to afford it on a fixed income. We currently have excellent coverage through my husband’s employer, AIG. However, my husband will be retiring within the next few years.
